TREATMENT OVERVIEW

Understanding Dental Implants

A dental implant replaces the root of a missing tooth. A restoration usually includes the implant fixture, an abutment and a crown. Bone and gum assessment, often with imaging, helps the dentist decide whether implantation is appropriate.

General information to help you prepare. Your treating clinician determines suitability and care.

TREATMENT OPTIONS

Options & approaches

A single implant can support one crown. Several implants may support separate crowns or a bridge. Full-arch reconstruction is a different plan, discussed on the All-on-4 and All-on-6 pages. The design depends on remaining teeth, available bone and bite forces.

DISCUSS WITH YOUR CLINICIAN

Suitability & considerations

Tell the dentist about gum disease, smoking, diabetes, medications and previous surgery. Infection, healing problems and injury to nearby structures are among the risks to discuss. Some patients need preparatory gum or bone treatment.

FROM ASSESSMENT TO FOLLOW-UP

Your care pathway

  1. Examination and scans

  2. written restoration plan

  3. placement when suitable

  4. healing and clinical reviews

  5. definitive crown or bridge fitting. The dentist decides whether a temporary restoration is possible.

BEFORE YOU TRAVEL

Planning your visit

Keep travel flexible until the dentist sets the stages. A later trip may be necessary for the final restoration. Ask for implant records and an aftercare plan that a dentist in your home country can use.

GOOD TO KNOW

Frequently Asked Questions

Can everyone have implants?
No. Oral health, bone, general health and the ability to maintain hygiene must be assessed.
Are same-day teeth always possible?
No. Immediate temporary teeth depend on the clinical plan and implant stability; they are not the same as a final restoration.
Will I need more than one trip?
Possibly. Healing, grafting and definitive fitting can require separate stages.
What care is needed after fitting?
Follow the dentist’s hygiene instructions and arrange professional reviews. Ask who to contact for pain, loosening or swelling.
